Essence Cosmetics – Eye Review
I recently picked up a couple Essence eye products (2 mascaras, an eyelash primer, and eyeliner) that I wanted to share with you! I enjoy the Essence brand overall as they indicate on their website that they do not test on animals, and their products are very affordable to their customers. Below are the products from my mini haul:
[Long Lasting Eye Pencil – in Black Fever] –
This waterproof eyeliner pencil is one of my favorites. In the U.S. it’s typically priced at about $3.00 and honestly I can’t think of another cheap eyeliner that works as well. It’s retractable so that you do not need to keep up with sharpening, and it goes on very smoothly. I purchased this in Black Fever and it has great color payoff. However, I do find that I need to reapply it later in the day but that isn’t problematic for me.
[Volume Booster Lash Primer] –
Essence describes this product as a vegan and cruelty-free eyelash primer that includes acai oil and mango butter to nourish your lashes.
My favorite eyelash primer is Loreal’s Voluminous Lash, but since I was running low I wanted to give something new a try. This formula is thinner than Loreal’s and unfortunately it didn’t quite plump my lashes as much. It does seem to be nourishing and it has a sweet mango smell to it which I really enjoyed. I don’t think that this is going to be a staple in my makeup kit though. It does go on smoothly and washes off well at the end of the day which I appreciate. I definitely don’t regret this purchase, but I think that there are better lash primers out there.
[Lash Princess False Lash Effect (in black)] –
I saw this mascara all over social media and decided to give it a try. Essence claims that this mascara defines and separates lashes for a dramatic look.
Personally this mascara missed the mark for me. Although it does provide volume to my lashes, I could not keep a curl at all. I tried different eyelash primers and used my typical eyelash curler, but didn’t have much success. It also flaked off towards the end of the day. I wish that I loved this but unfortunately it just wasn’t for me.
Lash Princess Curl and Volume – in Black
This mascara has a peanut shaped brush in comparison to the False Lash Effect mascara above which has a cone shaped brush. This mascara preformed much better for me! It’s a bit thinner in consistency which didn’t weigh my lashes down and make them straight. I’m able to hold a curl and wear this all day without any flaking later in the day as well. Thankfully it washes off easily with makeup remover without smearing or tugging my lashes. I do wish that this mascara came in a waterproof version, but I haven’t found it. If you’ve seen the waterproof version around, let me know in the comments!
